Fortunately, we'll have another chance this weekend. This is what I love about the South Bay. It's home to the largest ethnic Japanese community in the world outside of Japan. You can name any ethnicity and we have a large community. alessandra spisni We have access to the most amazing food. Strategy: There are 12 chefs. The festival runs from 10 AM to 8 PM on September 14 and 15.  That means we can get two meals in per day, multiply by 2 days and we can sample, at most, 4 each.  There are 7 out of town places we have to sample; we'll put a priority on the ones that are furthest.  So I guess we'll try the offerings from the chefs from Japan (2) , Hawaii alessandra spisni and New York (the ramen burger!).  We'll have to pick up the Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Jose entrants on road trips. Discovering Madam Kwong last weekend was like unearthing treasure to me. So how does a humble little cosy place compare to treasure when it is not a hatted restaurant or requires a reservation months in advance? Well by serving up Penang chee cheong fun, complete with sweet sauce and shrimp paste.  
I have been a fan of chee cheong fun since I was a little kid, whether it is rolled up, flat and thin, eaten with yong tau foo and sweet sauce or steam with prawns like you will get in yum cha. However since being introduced to the Penang version where it comes with shrimp paste, sweet sauce and sesame seeds, it ranks supreme. tasting kitchen Trouble is, apart from yum cha, I have nver found a place that serves chee cheong fun on the menu, well until we popped into Madam Kwong. So what if it is a 30 minute drive and sets me back $7, I know where I am going when I want some chee cheong fun. 
Besides the chee cheong fun, we had a bubur cha cha, a coconut based dessert with a mix of orange and sweet potato, yam and black eye beans. Sweet with a tinge of pandan, it was the perfect pick me up. 
If finding chee cheong fun was like finding tasting kitchen treasure, how about Nasi Lemak wrapped in banana leaf? While the sambal was more sweet rather tasting kitchen than spicy and I would have prefer more coconut milk in the rice, it amazing to find something so traditional (in packaging) in Melbourne, let alone in Malaysia tasting kitchen (where I hear is now wrapped with plastic and newspaper because banana leaves are too expensive). One packet here though will get you at least 6 packets in Malaysia.   
The Wife had the Assam Laksa, slightly spicy and sour, complete with the see through laksa noodle. The soup base is much clearer than versions I have seen that are murky with fish but definitely not light on flavour. 
Apart from dishing up some good old Penang classics, their fridge is stocked up with some amazing stuff from frozen curry and rendang pastes to frozen tasting kitchen Malaysian tasting kitchen durians! Looks like the next time I am coming here, I might as well do my groceries too!
Verdict: 4 stars out of 5 stars. Guaranteed to bring a smile to any Malaysian tasting kitchen who hasn't had a decent meal that screams home. Perfect place to go to if you are missing home (if home is Malaysia, of course).

SEISMS didn't leap straight to mind. Couldn't remember LEPPS or LAPPS (70A: Northern Scandinavians) . Wrote FEINTS for FEIGNS . But these were all very minor setbacks. Would've liked some more colorful answers in the themes (e.g. ROTTEN TEETH)—seems like the kind of theme that could go on and on, with enough answers for a Sunday, but no way it's interesting enough for a Sunday (unless you did something cooking courses quirky with the grid structure, or had some extra dimension to the "hole" concept). Fill on this is not that good. Bit too heavy on the abbr. and xwordese, nothing particularly dashing (outside the themers) besides cooking courses maybe IN A SLUMP . Pretty easy for a Wed.  No erasures and only RES, EMIL, FRA, EPEE, and NEALE were crossword based knowledge.  ARSENE was the only WOE, but I'm not really into literary mystery genre (TV mysteries are another story).  This was an OK Wed., nothing too awful, nothing that great.  So, yeah, I agree with Rex.
Easy. Failed to start the timer so I don't know how easy, but there were no serious holdups. Knew 20A straightaway but didn't put it in until a few crosses told me I was right. Wanted F__G__ (47D) to become FORGED, and DAMN the EPEE. But the EPEE won in the end. Last fill was 56A, leading to a groan. And a WTF at 46D - IP HONE? Found this completely underwhelming. THINGSWITHHOLES. Whee. As Rex has said about other themes in the recent past, why things with holes? Why these things? This is the ONETEN of themes, in my opinion. Random, factual cooking courses but uninteresting thing with not-particularly interesting answers to go along with the theme. You could easily go with things that are red or with lines or that are soft or that are cute or any other adjective or noun out there. Finished in what is typically easy/medium Tuesday time for me. Only hangups were RIEL/EMIL, and my getting my Greek and Latin roots mixed up, giving me SEXAD for a bit. Aside from Carlos Danger (which was a fantastic, timely cooking courses clue), I didn't think anything had any zip here. The puzzle was just there. It could be an answer for whenever someone decides THINGSTHATARETHERE would make a good theme.

Here is another fabulous recipe from Rachel Khoo with her take on the French classic, a Croque Madame . Most people would be familiar culinary scholarships with a Croque Monsieur which is a toasted cheese and ham sandwich, commonly served in most French bistros for lunch or as a light snack. For a more decadent treat, the Croque Monsieur is also sometimes coated culinary scholarships with a béchamel sauce and baked in the oven until the sauce is golden and bubbling.
What makes these croque madam muffins so incredibly luscious is the addition of béchamel sauce, or rather a mornay sauce (a béchamel sauce with cheese). Sounds like a bit of effort for a snack, but the sauce hardly takes any time to make for the quantity required for these muffins, not to mention that you are most likely to have these ingredients to hand in the fridge and pantry.
On the show, you don’t see Rachel Khoo adding any cheese to her béchamel sauce, but her book suggests adding a small amount of grated cheese culinary scholarships to the sauce and later for sprinkling, which I did for extra flavour.
The only special culinary scholarships purchase I had to make was the sliced white bread, something which I have never bought upon moving to Switzerland given the amazing variety of bread on offer. But I was thankful to see that the supermarkets offered sliced bread in small packages of about 10 slices – perfect culinary scholarships for the infrequent consumer of pappy white bread. Though, now that I have tried these Croque Madame Muffins, I have found myself buying this type of bread more often …
Although a Croque Madame traditionally has the inclusion of ham, you could certainly leave it out for a vegetarian option. I didn’t have any ham at home but we always have a constant supply of bacon in the fridge. So I fried the bacon in a pan until it just about to crisp and was still pliable so that I could easily wrap it inside the slices of bread which form a cup to hold all of the other ingredients.
Depending on the size of your muffin tin, you might find that once you have lined each compartment with bread and ham or bacon, you won’t have enough space to contain a whole egg (plus the sauce which goes on top of the egg). One tip is to gently crack the egg near the top and to pour out some of the egg white into a bowl, before placing the rest of the egg into the muffin tin. It sounds like a bit of a waste but if you have smallish eggs, they should be fine. Otherwise, if you can find super-large white sliced bread where you are to form larger “muffins”, these should accommodate a whole large egg.
While these Croque Madame Muffins might sound a bit fiddly, they are packed with flavour and I think they are a nice change to your usual eggs on toast. My only disappointment was that my bread did not crisp up very much, despite having been liberally brushed with melted butter. If I had left them in the oven for longer, the eggs would have over-cooked. But otherwise, as a fan of anything smothered in béchamel culinary scholarships sauce, I found these little egg and bacon cups to be quite delicious and have already recreated them a few times
Ooh definitely check out the cookbook if you can – there are so many wonderful recipes in there. I’ve seen a lot of breakfast ideas for baked eggs which are baked in a muffin tin, but I never thought to coat it in a béchamel sauce! This was really delicious.

Oh yes, look away if you are on a diet! But if it is true that French women don’t get fat, it might be because they would only eat one of these yummy Croque Madame Muffins, and not two or three!
I have really enjoyed cooking from this book so far, so it is definitely worth a look. There have been two recipes so far which didn’t turn out to my liking, but that hasn’t stopped my enthusiasm, thank goodness!

Ooh I love the sound of garlic culinary scholarships butter!! And to fill it with a meatball and some béchamel sauce … sounds delicious!!
